BIS Hallmarked Gold Nazariya for Newborns — Why It Matters & How to Choose

When it comes to baby jewellery, one question matters more than any other: is it safe? Gold has been placed on newborn babies across India for thousands of years — but not all gold is equal. BIS Hallmarked gold is the only standard that guarantees your baby is wearing exactly what you paid for.

At Rajasi Jindal, every gold piece we make is BIS Hallmarked. Here is everything you need to know about what that means, and why it matters when choosing a gold nazariya for your newborn.

What is BIS Hallmarking?

BIS stands for Bureau of Indian Standards — India's national quality certification body. A BIS Hallmark on a piece of gold jewellery means it has been independently tested and certified to contain exactly the purity of gold stated — no more, no less.

In India, gold jewellery can be hallmarked at three purity levels: 14k (58.5% pure gold), 18k (75% pure gold), and 22k (91.6% pure gold). For baby jewellery, 14k and 18k are the most practical choices — pure enough to be genuinely valuable, durable enough for a baby's active daily wear.

Why Does BIS Hallmarking Matter for Baby Jewellery?

Babies wear jewellery against their skin constantly. A nazariya stays on a newborn's wrist day and night, through baths and feeds and sleep. This means the metal quality matters more, not less, for baby jewellery compared to adult jewellery.

Non-hallmarked gold can contain impurities — metals like nickel, lead, or cadmium — that can cause skin irritation, allergic reactions, or worse on delicate newborn skin. BIS Hallmarked gold guarantees purity, which means it is genuinely hypoallergenic and safe for your baby.

How to Identify a BIS Hallmark

Every BIS Hallmarked piece carries a stamp on the back with the BIS logo (a triangle), the purity in karats (14K, 18K, or 22K), the year of hallmarking, and the jeweller's identification mark. On small pieces like nazariyas, you may need to look closely — but it will always be there on a genuine hallmarked piece.

At Rajasi Jindal, we stamp the hallmark on the back of every gold nazariya and bracelet. You can verify it the moment your piece arrives.

What Size Gold Nazariya is Right for a Newborn?

Newborns typically need a 4.5 or 5 inch nazariya. All our nazariyas include 0.5 inch of adjustable length, so a 4.5 inch piece fits most newborns comfortably. As your baby grows, the adjustable portion ensures the piece can grow with them.

Not sure about sizing? Our team is available on WhatsApp at +91-9999335894 — we guide hundreds of families through sizing every month and are happy to help.
